LOS ANGELES, Jan 12 ― Mary J. Blige received the 2,626th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame yesterday (January 11), which just happened to be her birthday. For the special occasion, the 47-year-old R&B singer was joined by rap mogul Sean Combs, who led the assembled crowd in serenading her with “Happy Birthday.”

Blige came to fame with her multi-platinum 1992 debut album What's the 411? which included the hit Real Love.

At the star ceremony Blige spoke to fans who she credited with saving her from the depression that took hold between that album and her followup.

“By the time I got to the My Life album I didn't know, I didn't want to live. I didn't know if I wanted to die, I didn't know what, I just knew I was ready to check out. And then I wrote you guys a letter called “My Life” and you all wrote me one back saying 'me too, Mary,' so thank you so much. This is what created our relationship.”
