SYDNEY, April 4 — If you wanted to have a baby and could ask anyone to be the father, who would it be?

Chances are, quite a few of you would say Brad Pitt — because beautiful children, right?

Singer Melissa Etheridge revealed recently that the actor was indeed her top choice when she and her ex-partner Julie Cypher wanted to start a family in the 90s.

She made the somewhat eyebrow-raising revelation during a recent interview with Australia’s Studio 10.

“He was such a good friend of mine, and we did consider it,” she told the TV network.

So why did she turn down the chance to have potentially the best-looking kids on earth?

“I looked and I saw how badly [Brad] wanted children and I thought, ‘I don’t want to share this with someone who really, badly wants children because my children don’t need another parent — they have two,’” she explained.

Ultimately, the then-couple chose to enlist music legend David Crosby’s troops instead.

Etheridge continued, “It’s one of the reasons why David Crosby and his wife are so perfect — because they already had children.”

Needless to say, Etheridge’s kids were none too pleased to discover that they could have won the genetic lottery.

“Of course, my teenagers now are like, ‘I could have had Brad Pitt [as my dad]!’ My son said, ‘I could’ve been amazingly handsome. But no!'” she laughed. “My children are lovely and gorgeous anyway.”

Etheridge and Cypher got together in 1990 after meeting on the set of a music video, but split a decade later.

During their partnership, Cypher gave birth to two children: Bailey Jean in 1997 and Beckett in 1998.

In 2000, the couple confirmed both had been fathered by sperm donor Crosby in a headline-making cover for Rolling Stone.
