KUALA LUMPUR, March 7 — The big screen adaptation of Malaysian animated TV series, BoBoiBoy, has been making quite a mark at the local box office.

Animonsta Studios’ BoBoiBoy The Movie currently has made RM2 million after just three days of release, it was revealed on the movie’s official Facebook page.

The animated movie, which opened in cinemas nationwide on 3 March, has previously gone on to break the record for biggest first day ticket sales, earning RM500,000 and successfully placing it in the Malaysian Book of Records for the highest opening on the first day for a Malaysian movie.

On its second day of release, the movie was already able to reach the RM1 million mark.

BoBoiBoy The Movie follows BoBoiBoy and his super friends on an adventure to save Ochobot, who has been kidnapped by a group of alien treasure hunters called The Tengkotak that wants to use him to search for an ancient “Power Sphere”.

The movie is now showing in Malaysia and Brunei, and is expected to open in Indonesia this 13 April.

Cinema Online contacted Animonsta Studio for comments but the relevant parties could not be reached at the time of writing.

However, in our recent interview with the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Animonsta Studios, Nizam Razak, he mentioned that his team are hopeful that BoBoiBoy The Movie will be able to gross RM25 million from 80 local cinemas, and over 100 cinemas in Brunei (also released 3 March) and Indonesia (13 April 2016).

Around 60 people had worked on adapting the series for the big screen since three years ago with a budget of RM5 million.
