LOS ANGELES, Dec 14 — If you grew up in the 1980s, you might remember watching endless cartoons that featured a cute, super-fast little mouse called Speedy Gonzales. Well, looks like it won’t be long before “Speedy Gonzales” will be headed to the big screen.

According to the Tracking Board, Warner Brothers is developing a new animated feature film for “Speedy Gonzales” though as of now, there is no screenwriter or director attached to the project. The film is said to feature a “contemporary take” on the Mexican mouse with incredible speed and savvy.

“Speedy Gonzales” was created by Friz Freleng and Hawley Pratt and made his official debut in 1955. He frequently went up against Sylvester the cat and occasionally ruffled the feathers of Daffy Duck.

While the super-fast, cheese-craving mouse has been featured in 46 Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies' cartoons, the original “Speedy Gonzales” cartoons are widely considered to have offensive racial stereotypes.

This won’t be the first time a “Speedy Gonzales” film has been planned, New Line tried to get a movie off the ground with George Lopez attached to star several years ago.

Till we know more, we can only hope the project might see the light of day — and if it does, in the words of Speedy Gonzales: Andale! Andale! Arriba! Arriba! Yii-hah!
