WASHINGTON, Nov 19 — He might be the leader of the free world, but Barack Obama has proved once again that he is just like us.

In an interview with HBO’s Bill Simmons for GQ, the US president admitted that while he is an avid “Game of Thrones” fan, he has a tough time keeping track of the show’s massive cast of characters.

And just like the rest of us, he even reads post-episode coverage to unravel the fantasy hit’s complicated plotlines.

Obama was quoted as saying, “I do love ‘Game of Thrones.’ My favourite character is probably… the dwarf, what’s his name?”

That would be Tyrion Lannister, sir.

“The problem with ‘Game of Thrones,’ though,” the president continued, “is that I don’t remember the names of any of the characters… I remember the characters, so when I watch it, I know exactly what’s going on. But if you read a review of the show afterwards and they’re mentioning such and such, the only one I remember is Jon Snow, because I can pronounce Jon Snow.”

And as we all know, Obama was rather concerned to learn the fate of Snow.

Series director David Nutter told Comic-Con in July that Obama had cornered him in the White House clearly keen to exercise his privilege as a presidential superfan.

Nutter said, “Three weeks ago, I was in the company of the President of the United States. He turned to me, put his hand on my shoulder, and said, ‘You didn’t kill Jon Snow did you?'”

“I said, ‘Jon Snow is deader than dead,’” the director added. “I thought I was going to be sent to Guantanamo or something, but fortunately I’m here — but he’s dead.”

Obama replied, “You keep killing off my favourite characters.”
