JAKARTA, Aug 12 — One cannot say the movie’s name without instinctively breaking into song; “Ada Apa Dengan Cinta” can arguably be called one of Indonesia’s most successful movies.
Now 13 years later, the 2002 hit movie is finally getting a big-screen sequel.
Lead actress Dian Sastrowardoyo recently posted on her Instagram that “Ada Apa Dengan Cinta 2” will commence shooting this October.
The 33-year-old is also set to reprise her role as Cinta, while lead actor Nicolas Saputra will return to star opposite her as Rangga.
Producer Mira Lesmana also confirmed the news, saying that she will make sure the lead characters will still be played by the duo. According to detikHOT, Lesmana and Riri Riza, both producers of the original movie, officially announced the news at the recent Popcon Asia 2015 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Riza not only revealed that the shooting for the sequel will be done in New York, Jakarta and Yogyakarta, he also revealed that Melly Goeslaw, who sung the original same name catchy soundtrack, will be producing the sequel’s soundtrack once again with Anto Hoed.
Though no further details on the storyline were revealed, fans are still anticipating to see the story especially now that the characters are all grown up and no longer teenagers.
Fans’ passion to see a proper sequel was reignited when last year, a short 11-minute sequel called “Ada Apa dengan Cinta 2014”, which sees New York-dwelling Rangga wanting to meet Jakarta-based Cinta, was produced last year. The mini drama was done as promotional media for social networking app, Line.
The original “Ada Apa Dengan Cinta” tells the story of Cinta and Rangga, of how the two teenagers from different social backgrounds fall in love but are afraid to admit it to each other due to the consequences that might arise. — Cinema Online
