LOS ANGELES, Aug 12 — The adorable dog Uggie, famous for his role in the academy award-winning film “The Artist,” had to be put down due to a tumour, celebrity website TMZ reported.

The brown and white Jack Russel Terrier won over audiences with his stage tricks and cute demeanour in the film alongside Jean Dujardin.

Uggie was diagnosed with a prostate tumour and put down last week, TMZ reported. He was 13 years old.

Uggie garnered a “Palm Dog” award at the Cannes Film Festival for his performance in the 2011 film.
