LOS ANGELES, June 29 — The 2015 BET Awards today brought a mix of funny and serious moments in a night filled with throwback performances, appearances from old school artists and mashups of greatest hits.

From the Janet Jackson tribute to to Sean “Diddy” Combs’ tumble, here are the best and worst moments from the 2015 BET Awards:

The good…

- In one of the most hotly anticipated moments of the almost four-hour ceremony, Janet Jackson was presented with the inaugural Ultimate Icon: Music Dance Visual Award. Looking ridiculously amazing in a white jump suit, The youngest member of the Jackson family singing clan, Janet thanked her fans and her parents, Joe and Katherine Jackson, who were seated at the front of the Los Angeles arena.

- One of the final performances of the evening included a cameo by the one and only Patti LaBelle who belted out her hit “If Only You Knew. She even gave a short, cute speech about the recent Supreme Court ruling on marriage equality, saying “all people can love whoever you want and you can even get married.”

- Nicki Minaj may have had Meek Mill as her date today, but she brought her mum onstage to accept her big award. “I always talk about my mummy and this is the first time the world is going to see her,” Minaj said as she accepted her award, introducing viewers to her mum, Carol. Also, how sweet was Meek’s giant smile while he watched his girl up onstage?

The bad…

- Destiny’s Who? Kelly Rowland stumbled over the name of that super successful iconic girl group that she ACTUALLY was a part of back in the day, according to E!Online. She recovered well though, and you see that she too was surprised by her slip-up.

- It’s considered the biggest fashion faux pas to be caught in the same dress as someone else at a major event. And it seems Laverne Cox and Gabrielle Union found themselves in such a predicament when they stepped on stage to present the Best Actor Award in identical white gowns. After some hip-hop trivia, Gabrielle admitted defeat and said she would switch outfits for the after parties.

And the ugly!

- Diddy drops it like it’s hot — literally! Sean “Diddy” Combs fell through a hole in the stage during an exciting performance that celebrated Bad Boy Records’ 20th year anniversary, one of the night’s highlights. Lil Kim, Mase, Faith Evans, 112 and The Lox joined Combs as they performed a medley of past hits. Combs quickly got up and carried on with the performance though, appearing unhurt.

- Rihanna rocked a plunging, satin jacket that put her cleavage on full display in a seriously daring get-up at the awards. While we were petrified at any moment RiRi might suffer a nip slip, she luckily did have duct tape handy — although it wasn’t so she could hold her dress together! She apparently ended up duct-taping the hands of Floyd Mayweather and the boxer didn’t put up much of a fight. Seems she was just taking her friends hostage in a stunt to hype her new video “Bitch Better Have My Money” which airs in full on July 2.
