Robert Zemeckis is currently in talks with Lionsgate to direct the film adaptations of the “Chaos Walking” books, authored by Patrick Ness. The novels are set in a world where all living beings — with the exception of women — can hear the thoughts of others in a constant stream known as “Noise.”

On the planet New World, where colonists from Earth live amongst the local fauna, the Spackles, Todd Hewitt, a 13-year old orphan, discovers a place where silence reigns, free of Noise. The discovery will lead him to flee the army of the mayor, escaping with Viola, a young girl who is also an orphan.

The “Walking Chaos” trilogy, published between 2008 and 2010, consists of “The Knife of Letting Go,” “The Ask and the Answer” and “Monsters of Men.” The Oscar-winning screenwriter Charlie Kaufman (“Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”) will adapt the young adult novels into a series of screenplays for the forthcoming Lionsgate films. — AFP/Relaxnews
