KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 29 — The FBM KLCI ended higher today, lifted by buying interests in selected heavyweights led by TNB and Petronas Chemicals.   

The benchmark index rose 7.63 points, or 0.47 per cent, to end at 1,637.93, after moving between 1,625.82 and 1,640.53 throughout the day.

The index opened 0.45 point lower at 1,629.85.

TNB surged 30 sen to RM13.90 and Petronas Chemicals jumped 12 sen to RM6.99.  On the broader market, losers and gainers were almost flat at 371 to 370, with 375 counters unchanged, 641 untraded and 50 suspended.  Volume increased to 1.77 billion shares worth RM1.40 billion from 1.41 billion shares worth RM1.45 billion on Wednesday.

Among heavyweights, Maybank gained three sen to RM7.98, Sime Darby increased six sen to RM8.14, IHH Healthcare added one sen to RM6.34, Public Bank was flat at RM19.68 and Maxis declined eight sen to RM6.02.

Of the actives, Sumatec Resources and Hibiscus Petroleum increased one sen each to 7.5 sen and 41 sen, respectively and Borneo Oil edged up half-a-sen to 18 sen.

Main Market debutante, Foundpac Group, surged 12 sen to 66 sen.

On the regional markets, Singapore’s Straits Times fell 0.44 per cent to 2,885.54, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng increased 0.17 per cent to 21,790.91 and Japan’s Nikkei 225 declined 1.32 per cent at 19,145.0. 

The FBM Emas Index rose by 42.03 points to 11,439.49, FBMT 100 Index added 40.20 points to 11,158.61 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index surged 75.77 points to 12,025.37.

The FBM 70 was up 1.62 points to 12,982.06 and the FBM Ace fell 11.09 points to 4,774.82.

Sector-wise, the Finance Index rose 41.43 points to 14,287.32, Industrial Index fell 4.28 points to 3,111.32 and the Plantation Index surged 73.76 points to 7,746.38.

Main Market turnover rose to 1.37 billion units worth RM1.34 billion from 1.09 billion units worth RM1.394 billion on Wednesday. 

The ACE Market volume soared to 239.03 million shares valued at RM27.35 million against yesterday’s 160.32 million shares valued at RM24.254 million.

Warrants declined to 155.112 million units worth RM27.58 million from 157.47 million units worth RM29.138 million yesterday. 

Consumer products accounted for 81.143 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products (360.957 million), construction (67.331 million), trade and services (682.11 million), technology (42.384 million), infrastructure (7.935 million), SPAC (5.459 million), finance (49.15 million), hotels (262,700), properties (41.129 million), plantations (15.405 million), mining (1,000), REITs (18.67 million) and closed/fund (11,000).  — Bernama
