KUALA LUMPUR, July 20 — Maxis Bhd’s pre-tax profit rose to RM648 million for the second quarter ended June 30, 2016 from RM631 million in the same period last year.

Revenue for the quarter under review stood at RM2.102 billion from RM2.11 billion previously.

In a statement, the telecommunications company said it registered stable postpaid revenue of RM975 million for the second quarter this year against RM972 million last year.

Maxis attributed the postpaid revenue growth to higher MaxisONE Plan subscriptions, recording 1.3 million subscriptions in June.

Chief Executive Officer Morten Lundal said Maxis witnessed a data explosion in the last three to five months as people were using data and video much more than before.

“For Maxis, it has always been about enabling our customers to enjoy their digital experiences in a completely worry-free way. In April, we upgraded over a million customers with a lot more data.

“But it is not just about giving more data—what is important is to have your large data allowance on a quality network, which is why Maxis invested over RM1.3 billion last year, and we are going to invest the same amount this year,” he added.

Maxis is now the industry leader in LTE networks, reaching 80 per cent of the population and covering more than 220 cities and towns, supported by more than 13,000 km of fibre. — Bernama
