BERA, June 8 — A total of 3,000 Malaysian agriculture-based halal products are expected to enter China’s market from next year.
Minister of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said at present, only 232 types of local halal products were on sale in Xian, capital of Shaanxi province in China, at the “Sam Bao” supermarket.
“About 1,000 more halal products will enter the Chinese market before this year-end. In 2015, 3,000 halal products of various types will follow suit.
“China is confident of Malaysian halal products due to it being clean and of quality,” he told reporters after officiating the “Pahang Entrepreneur Information Tour” here today.
Also present was the Pahang Cooperatives, Entrepreneur and Consumer Committee chairman, Datuk Shahiruddin Ab Moin.
Ismail Sabri said Malaysia had a bright future when it comes to marketing halal products in China due to demand from the Muslim community there, particularly in Xian.
The Bera Member of Parliament also said a seminar on Malaysian halal products will be held in the province and attended by religious leaders and others.
Meanwhile, in this regard, he said entrepreneurs who produced halal products in the country need to be more aggressive in snapping up opportunities following the increase in demand since last year from the Muslim community there.
In another development, Ismail Sabri said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will officiate the first Agro Bazaar to be held outside the country, in Singapore on June 26.
“Four shops have been rented on Arab Street there to sell various agro-based products and local fruits with high demand such as honey jackfruit, rambutans, mangosteen and Musang King durian,” he added. — Bernama
