KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 29 — The Putrajaya division of PKR Youth today urged the police to investigate allegations portraying its party president and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as an agent of Zionist Israel.

Its chief Syazreen Ezam Saidi filed a complaint at the Putrajaya district police headquarters earlier this afternoon, saying these allegations played up racial and religious sentiments that tarnished Anwar’s reputation and affected Malaysian sovereignty too.

“From what I can tell, this is not a matter that must be looked upon lightly as it involves the sovereignty of our country, the safety of the country because it involves two countries and Israel is currently facing conflict,” Ezam told reporters outside the police station.

Local daily Sinar Harian aired a livestream of the impromptu press conference on its Facebook page.

In a later statement, Ezam said the allegations had been circulating since Anwar’s appointment as prime minister last Friday.

He said allegations made it seem as if Anwar was made PM with help from Israel instead of with the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Malay Rulers.

“These actions resulting from the frustration of Pakatan Harapan’s political enemies has gone too far as there are some who wish to threaten the unity of the people who consist of multiple races through such slander,” he added.
