KUALA LUMPUR, May 29 — Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) has denounced the group calling itself “Hindraf 2.0”, which has delivered several demands to Putrajaya, the Council of Eminent Persons, and the Institutional Reform Committee.

Its chairman P. Waytha Moorthy said Hindraf has never made such demands, including demanding Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) be opened to non-Bumiputera students, clarifying that “Hindraf 2.0” itself does not exist.

“Its so-called leader P. Uthayakumar is the leader of Human Rights Party. He has not been a part of any Hindraf activities since 2008 as he wanted to develop his own political party,” Waytha Moorthy said in a statement.

Waytha Moorthy and Uthayakumar are brothers.

“Confusing the people with a name similar to Hindraf is not helping our long struggle to find permanent and comprehensive solutions to the peoples’ problems,” he said.

He also chided his brother for his confrontational ways, which could cause confusion, anger and hatred among the public.

“Tun Mahathir has given his commitment to Hindraf to solve longstanding issues and we are already working with him and other Pakatan leaders,” he said, referring to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“It does not make sense to take a confrontational approach towards the Pakatan government that Hindraf fully supports.”

Yesterday, the so-called Hindraf 2.0 submitted 25 demands to the Institutional Reforms Committee, with the aim of improving the lives of the bottom 75 per cent (B75) of the Indian community.

Among the issues raised and requested included land schemes along the lines of Felda and Felcra, more education opportunities as well as business licences and permits specifically for the B75 Indian community.
