KUALA LUMPUR, May 26 ― A DAP member of parliament has urged the police to investigate Arul Kanda Kandasamy and former 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) executives for criminal breach of trust.

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng lodged a police report earlier today against the 1MDB president for alleged attempts to falsify information regarding the troubled fund.

“1MDB director Kamal Mohd Ali had also informed the minister of finance that the investment made by the fund is a scam,” Lim said in the report.

“But 1MDB CEO Arul Kanda had repeatedly said the fund is not insolvent and insisted that it is able to meet all its debt obligation through rationalisation of its assets.

“He gave falsified information despite being aware of the wrongdoings of previous management members that included breach of trust and embezzlement of public fund,” he added.

The complaint, lodged at the Sentul district police headquarters, was based on news reports of the financial details revealed by current 1MDB executives in a meeting with Minister of Finance Lim Guan Eng earlier this week.

Lim cited a news report by The Star in his complaint.

The Kepong MP also wanted the police to investigate officials from the previous administration on suspicion of attempts to cover up investigation into the fund.

Among those he wanted questioned are Cabinet members of then prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, police and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission personnel.

Najib oversaw 1MDB in his capacity as minister of finance then.

He has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
