KOTA KINABALU, May 25 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) conducted a raid on the residence of former Sabah chief minister Tan Sri Musa Aman in Luyang here last Wednesday but did not seize any items, according to Musa’s lawyer Zahir Shah.
He said in a statement today that the MACC confirmed that a team of investigators went to the residence of the Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) chief but did not take anything.
“We would like to put on record that while the MACC was there to conduct a raid, we have been made to understand by the MACC themselves that no such seizure took place, i.e. no files and documents of any kind were taken.
“We are further made to understand, and confirmed by the MACC, that no raid or any seizure of any kind took place after the said incident (on May 23) as well,” he said.
Last Monday, the house of Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) president Datuk Jeffrey Kitingan was also checked and he was questioned by MACC on suspicion of having received RM20 million to take sides with Musa in the 14th general election on May 9.
The day after the election, on May 10, Musa announced that STAR, which had won two state seats in the election, declared its support for Sabah BN that had won 29 seats, hence allowing Musa to form a government with a simple majority of 31 seats.
On the night of May 10, Musa was sworn in as the Sabah chief minister, but within the next 48 hours, Parti Warisan Sabah president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal was appointed as the chief minister after several BN assemblymen switched allegiance to Warisan and its Pakatan Harapan allies, which had also won 29 seats in total. — Bernama
