SHAH ALAM, May 18 — The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah today accepted business tithe amounting to RM14.3 million from four companies at a breaking-of-fast event with the people held at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque here.

The four companies were Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS), UMW Holdings Bhd and Worldwide Holdings Bhd.

TNB which was represented by its Selangor Customer Service general manager Datuk Mohd Zahir Md Nagoor handed over business tithe of RM4.7 million and PKNS, represented by its chief executive officer Datin Paduka Noraida Mohd Yusof handed over RM4.4 million in tithe.

UMW Holdings Bhd which was represented by its Group chairman Tan Sri Hamad Kama Piah Che Othman handed over RM2.7 million tithe, while Worldwide Holdings Bhd which was represented by its Group chief executive officer Datin Paduka Norazlina Zakaria handed over RM2.5 million tithe.

Also present were Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah, Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, Selangor Islamic Religious Council chairman Datuk Mohammed Khusrin Munawi, Selangor Mufti Datuk Mohd Tamyes Abdul Wahid and state executive council members.

At the same event, Sultan Sharafuddin also presented Hari Raya Aidilfitri aid and tithe amounting to RM220,500 to 66 asnaf (eligible tithe recipients), 204 poor people and 171 mualaf (persons who convert to Islam).

Meanwhile, Mohammed Khusrin, in his speech, said in conjunction with Ramadan this year, the Selangor Zakat Board would be distributing a total of RM35.1 million in tithe to asnaf, poor people and mualaf statewide.

He said of that total, RM9.5 million would be distributed to 12,528 asnaf families, RM23.4 million to 31,718 poor families and RM2.1 million to 5,777 mualaf.

Sultan Sharafuddin also performed maghrib, isyak and tarawih prayers with the congregation. — Bernama
