KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 — Malaysia’s new Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu, had to ‘defend’ himself against impersonators who set up a Twitter account under his moniker.

In a Facebook post, Mohamad, who is fondly known as Mat Sabu, said that several fake accounts were created, causing confusion among Malaysians.

Among the fake account usernames on Twitter were @MohamadSabu_ and @Mohamad_Sabu.

Malay Mail’s checks on the accounts showed that at least one has been shut down — @MohamadSabu_.

The 63-year-old Amanah president stressed that his username was @MSabu_Official for Twitter, while “Mohamad Sabu” was his official Facebook page.

Instagram users can follow him at msabu_official.

The ministry had also issued a separate statement on Twitter under the hashtag #FakeAccount.
