KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 — Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is a polished politician who knows the ground very well and is not in a hurry to return to active politics, Tun Daim Zainuddin said today.

When asked if it was too soon for the PKR leader to succeed Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister-in-waiting, Daim responded that Anwar understands what the Pakatan Harapan (PH) manifesto is all about.

“I’ve met Anwar a couple of times, he is a very polished politician. He knew what the manifesto was.

“When you sell Tun Mahathir as the interim prime minister, you have to honour and accept that,” the Council of Eminent Persons chairman told reporters at Ilham Tower here.

He also said that Anwar is not like some politicians who are “impatient” when it comes to holding ministerial roles.

“Sometimes, in a political party, there are those who are impatient. These young fellows are always in a hurry. Leadership must control the party,” he said.

Although Daim did not disclose who he was referring to, it is believed he was talking about PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli who openly criticised the appointment of DAP’s Lim Guan Eng as finance minister last weekend.
