BAGAN DATUK, May 17 — Three children, aged between two and four, were allegedly hacked to death by a mentally ill man who ran amok at Kampung Sungai Haji Muhammad in Rungkup, here today.
Four others — namely the mother and eldest sister of the victims as well as two school students — were also injured in the 2.30pm incident.
Perak Criminal Investigation Department chief SAC Yahya Abd Rahman said the man, armed with a machete, had trespassed into the family’s house before brandishing the weapon at the victims.
Subsequently, the suspect headed to Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Haji Mohamad and injured the two students there, he said here today.
Yahya said police managed to arrest the suspect following a tip-off from members of the public and seized the machete.
All the victims were taken to the Teluk Intan Hospital, he said.
Yahya said the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Meanwhile, according to a villager who wanted to remain anonymous, the suspect, known as ‘Rambo’, had just returned to the village after being away for quite some time. — Bernama
