PETALING JAYA, May 14 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad has confirmed his resignation today.
In a statement, Dzulkifli said he had sent in his contract termination letter to the Chief Secretary of the government, Tan Sri Ali Hamsa, today.
“The contract termination is enforced from today and I will report back to the Attorney-General’s office tomorrow. I take this opportunity to thank MACC for their undivided support during my tenure, starting from August 1, 2016.
“I hope MACC will continue to carry out their duties and responsibilities in the fight against corruption and abuse of power alongside the new administration,’’ he said in the statement.
Prior to his appointment to the MACC, Dzulkifli had served as a deputy public prosecutor with the Attorney-General’s Chamber (AGC) and as heads and directors of several units and divisions.
It was reported that following Dzulkifli’s resignation, former MACC Chief Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed may return to the post.
Dzulkifli’s confirmation came only hours after AG Tan Sri Apandi Ali was told to go on leave by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Subsequently the Solicitor-General, Datuk Engku Nor Faizah Engku Atek will take over Apandi’s duties while the process to appoint a new AG takes its due course.
