KUALA LUMPUR, May 11 — The cooperation between Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is seen as an ideal alliance which will drive Malaysia to greater heights.

This is one of the hopes harboured by Pakatan Harapan (PH) supporters outside Istana Negara compound yesterday to cheer for Dr Mahathir who was sworn in as the seventh Prime Minister of Malaysia, yesterday.

Muhd Adam Khalid, 36, a civil servant said he was confident the two leaders could overcome their earlier differences to take Malaysia into a glorious era.

“It’s true they’ve been enemies. But it is not an obstacle for them to work together again, forming a great alliance because both of them have their own credibility to lead the country.

“Tun Mahathir obviously has a huge influence on the Malaysian political arena despite leaving the position more than 15 years ago. With his achievements, Malaysia is poised to soar to greater heights in the world and we believe it is possible,” he told Bernama.

Adam said Anwar was an eminent orator because he was able to influence his supporters, especially the younger people.

He pointed out that Anwar’s leadership was apparent when he held key positions such as the minister of finance in the 1990s when the country enjoyed good economic growth.

Meanwhile, Mohd Faizal Mohd Ali, 36, a PH supporter was happy with the results of the 14th general election favouring PH.

“I’m happy PH won because they have promised to abolish the GST, I hope Tun can restore the government to what it was before,” he said.

According to a private sector employee B. Anbarasan, 27, he was overwhelmed by Dr Mahathir’s persistence to return as Prime Minister even though he had reached 92 years old.

“We can see that he is trying to save our country. He wants to help the future generations so that their lives would not be unduly burdened as they are now,” he said outside Istana Negara.  — Bernama
