various accusations at Barisan Nasional (BN), especially during the final days of campaigning, to distract voters ahead of the May 9 polls, said Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

He said he was confident PH would adopt a similar strategy just like in the 13th General Election (GE13) where the opposition pact played up the issue of 40,000 Bangladeshis brought into the country to ensure victory for BN.

“However, this time , they’ll play up another issue . The lies that they will come out are just to incite the people, to get the sympathy votes.

“As such, I would like to advise voters not to simply fall or believe any news they receive, check and verify the news first,” he ” he told reporters after a get-together with single parents and orphans here today.

Also present were BN candidates for the Kuala Langat parliamentary seat, Shahril Sufian Hamdan, and Sijangkang state seat, Datuk Sulaiman Karli.

Commenting on the disciplinary action against three UMNO veterans, namely Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim, Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz and Tun Daim Zainuddin for sharing the stage with the opposition, Khairy said the decision was appropriate as they had also badmouthed the BN.

“I do respect them, but when they share the stage with the opposition, disciplinary action must be taken,” he said.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor announced the sacking of Rafidah Aziz and  Daim, who were former ministers, for colluding with the opposition.

Rais, on the other hand, was being investigated for the same reason.

Khairy, who is defending the Rembau parliamentary seat in the GE14, also slammed the opposition for accepting the Umno veterans when the trio had been among the opposition’s biggest critics.

“(Jailed PKR leader) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has labelled Daim as the most corrupt person in Malaysia but now (the latter) has been accepted unconditionally. This clearly shows that the opposition has no principles a, to win, they’ll accept anyone,” he added. — Bernama
