PETALING JAYA, April 13 — Fancy a free bowl of Klang’s famous bak kut teh?

The popular dish of pork ribs in a broth of herbs and spices, has several stories of its origins, including that it was invented in Port Klang by coolies in the early 20th century.

With various initiatives to get people to go out and vote in the 14th general election, a popular bak kut teh outlet in Klang is promising free bowls of the offering on May 9.

Eng Chun Bak Kut Teh posted on its Facebook page that a total 500 sets of bak kut teh with rice worth RM5,500 will be up for grabs at its two outlets to those who can prove they have voted come Election Day.

It also urged everyone to vote early so that the shop owner and his 15 workers can dish out the free sets and then take time out to cast their ballots later in the afternoon.

The restaurant opens at 7am.

Eng Chun’s two shops in Klang are located in Taman Berkeley and Taman Sentosa. The offer is valid at both outlets.
