KUALA LUMPUR, April 10 — A stage in the neighbourhood of Taman Derga Jaya in Pokok Sena, Kedah was vandalised with rotten eggs just hours before a Barisan Nasional (BN) talk was to take place last night.

State BN secretary Datuk Md Rozai Shaifian described the incident as sabotage as the stage was ready to the talk titled in Malay “Menolak Pakatan Hipokrasi” (Rejecting the Hypocritical Pact) since Sunday evening, Berita Harian reported.

“We believe rotten eggs were hurled onto the stage on purpose, staining the carpet on the stage and causing it to reek.

“We had to change the carpet immediately to ensure the talk goes on smoothly as planned,” Md Rozai was quoted as saying.

The talk was supposed to be attended by several state Umno leaders, including Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah and Datuk Othman Abdul.

Kedah Umno information secretary Sohaimi Zainal Abidin has lodged a report on the vandalism at the Kota Setar district police headquarters.

“Umno views this as a serious matter and categorise it as an attempt at sabotaging the programme. It, however, did not dampen the spirit of the party.

“In fact, it did not even affect the talk which went on according to plan,” Sohami was quoted saying.

He also requested for security at all BN premises to be beefed up during elections period to prevent further attempts of sabotage.
