KUALA LUMPUR, April 9 — An Umno supreme council member claimed today that only Barisan Nasional (BN) could save Selangor’s water problems.

Incumbent Kuala Selangor MP Datuk Seri Irmohizam Ibrahim said incumbent Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Azli clearly showed a flippant attitude when the latter accused the federal government of refusing to carry out partial handover of the Langat 2 water treatment plant (LRAL2) to Pengurusan Air Selangor (Air Selangor).

“The Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry together with the Cabinet has made it clear that the handover by Pengurusan Aset Air Bhd (PAAB) to Air Selangor would be done once the state government completes their water restructuring scheme.

“The Mentri Besar has to evaluate his capabilities in decision-making and administrative competence to ensure the people of Selangor enjoy clean water without any shortages,” he said in a statement.

Irmohizam said the caretaker BN federal government viewed public welfare seriously.

“This is only fair for PAAB as it was entitled to fair compensation for the RM3.7 billion in lease payments from Air Selangor.

“The cost does not include water diversion cost from Sungai Semantan, Pahang worth RM3.8 billion sustained entirely by the central government,” he said.
