KUALA LUMPUR, April 7 — Perak will get a new airport built in Seri Iskandar under the Barisan Nasional (BN) manifesto that was launched tonight.

BN chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak said that the airport will be built over the next five years.

“Over the next five years, a new airport will be built in Seri Iskandar,” Najib told thousands of supporters at Bukit Jalil.

The Transport Ministry accepted the state government’s proposal last November to build a new airport on 4,176.7 hectares of government-owned land.

The existing Sultan Azlan Shah Airport in Ipoh was not designed for wide-body aircrafts and its runway cannot be extended due to limited land as it is surrounded by residential area.
