KUALA NERANG, March 3 — Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid today lambasted Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) promise to reintroduce the teaching of Science and Mathematics in English (PPSMI) if they win in the 14th General Election.

He said this was a part of Pakatan Harapan’s empty promises, when ironically, the policy that was introduced by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in 2003, was repealed by the party’s current top leader, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who was the education minister then.

“During that time, the opposition had also objected the repeal, but today Dr Mahathir is making promises of reviving PPSMI. Thus, I assume that they (PH) constantly make promises which they change overnight,” he said when presenting school aid at SMK Kuala Nerang today.

Mahdzir, who is also  UMNO Supreme Council member said currently there were already two programmes initiated nationwide, namely the Highly Immersive Programme  (10,000 schools) and the  Dual Language Programme (1,500 schools).

““If PH wants to go ahead with the promised programme, that is their right. However, in my opinion, as we already have programmes that are being implemented, future plans should take into consideration its suitability among communities, schools and the capability to execute programmes,” he added. — Bernama
