KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26 — Thousands of motorists traveling along MRR2 today were caught in a massive traffic jam especially from Ulu Klang to Ampang after a crane collapsed at the site of a construction project near Dataran Ukay at about 10am today.

Bernama found that as of 1.30pm, only one of the three lanes along the route could be used as the crane was still obstructing traffic flow.

According to Selangor Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department Head Superintendent Azman Shari’at, the traffic congestion stretched five kilometres from Ulu Klang to Ampang.

He said the consultants and contractors involved in the project were in the process of moving the crane which was obstructing traffic.

The incident also resulted in a man, 36, being injured and now being treated at the Ampang Hospital.

As at 6.20pm, two units of crane transporters were used to remove the crane that collapsed at the project site near Dataran Ukay, here this morning.

According to sources, one of the two cranes was placed near the embankment of the slope near the site of the collapsed crane while the other crane was parked on the road to provide support.

“At the moment, the project contractor was in the process of fixing a special chain to one of the wheels of the crane to carry the collapsed crane.

“In addition, a temporary platform was also being erected to place the collapsed crane and this was being implemented as soon as possible,”he told Bernama.

Traffic congestion was still being reported at the MRR2 especially from the direction of Ulu Kelang to Ampang. — Bernama
