IPOH, Feb 24 ― Two local men were detained by police for allegedly possessing 100 packets of suspected ketum juice at two houses in Simpang Pulai here. 

The two friends, aged 43 and 18 respectively, were apprehended during an 11am police raid on a residence in Taman Raia Mesra, Simpang Pulai yesterday morning.

Ipoh police chief Assistant Comm Mohd Ali Tamby said police found both suspects outside the first house during the raid.

After taking them into custody, Mohd Ali said police personnel brought both suspects for an inspection inside the house.

“There, they found a large plastic bag containing 15 packets of liquid believed to be ketum juice,” Mohd Ali said in a statement last night.

“We continued questioning them, and they revealed that there were more packets in an empty house in front of the first house.”

“After entering the second house, we found an orange cooler containing another 85 packets of liquid believed to be ketum juice,” he added.

After the raid, Mohd Ali said both suspects were taken to the Ipoh police station for further action.

He said a packet of ketum juice could fetch between RM 4.50 and RM 5 on the market.

Mohd Ali revealed that the 43-year-old suspect had three previous criminal records, while the 18-year-old had no criminal records.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 30 of the Poisons Act which regulates the control of import, export, manufacture, sale, etc, of psychotropic substances.

Meanwhile in a separate incident, police also arrested a 24-year-old factory worker from Buntong for allegedly possessing RM 2,000 worth of drugs yesterday.

The man was nabbed at a home in First Garden, for allegedly possessing 49.8g of a substance believed to be heroin, and 7.8g of suspected Methamphetamine.

Mohd Ali said the substances were found in a flower pot in front of the house at around 1.30am.

“We also found three Yamaha LC motorcycles that had been reported missing in front of the house,” said Mohd Ali.

“The motorcycles and substances were seized and the suspect was taken into custody.”

Mohd Ali said the heroin could be worth around RM1,500 while the methamphetamine could be worth RM500.
