GEMAS, Feb 14 — “It sounded like a rocket as a blade which came off a lawnmower whizzed past behind me.

“First, the blade struck Nur Afini Roslan in the head before it hit my friend, Abdullah Hazlan and finally, me.

“When I turned around and saw her (Nur Afini) lying motionless on the ground, I panicked at the gruesome sight before me,” said Mohd Farhan Reza Badrol Hesam, 13, when recalling a freak mishap involving a lawnmower at the Sekolah Memengah Kebangsaan Tuanku Abdul Rahman here yesterday.

In the 10.30am incident, 14-year-old Nur Afini whose head was split in two by the ‘flying guilottine’ died on the spot.

“We were rehearsing for our sports day parade at the field when the ‘ustaz’ (teacher) told us to sit in groups. At the time, the lawnmower operator was cutting grass a short distance away.

“Suddenly, I heard something hurtling in our direction like a rocket... first, the blade hit Nur Afini, then it struck my friend and me. I look around and saw her lying on the ground,” Mohd Farhan Reza told reporters when met at his Kampung Bangkahulu home here today. — Bernama
