PETALING JAYA, Feb 2 — A 44-year-old man admitted to sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl in his trial at the Sessions Court in Sungai Petani, Kedah, yesterday.
According to the Harian Metro newspaper, Tan Seong Hee, 44, pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 when it was read out to him.
The labourer was recorded kissing and fondling the girl at a carnival there last month, Tan, who was unrepresented, is liable for up to 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping.
He was accused of committing the act at a funfair site, which was next to the Kuala Muda district police headquarters at 11 pm on January 20.
The court later set March 1 for the subsequent case mention pending a medical report on Tan.
Tan was also denied bail.
In the viral video of the incident, Tan was shown bouncing the girl on his lap with his hand under her dress.
Following the video, the girl’s mother lodged a police report and the man was arrested the same day.
