KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 27 — The police advised visitors not to wear jewellery when celebrating Thaipusam at the Batu Caves temple next week.

Gombak police chief  ACP Ali Ahmad said this was to prevent criminals from taking advantage of the big crowds expected during the celebration.

“People intending to be at the Batu Caves temple are advised to be more careful because the place will be crowded. Besides jewellery, weapons and explosives are also among forbidden items,” he told reporters here today.

He said a sufficient number of police personnel would be deployed in the run-up to Thaipusam, which falls on January 31, and a few days after that.
