KOTA KINABALU, Jan 23 — Sabah police recorded the highest crime case solving rate in the country last year with 77.32 per cent out of 6,242 cases solved.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Ramli Din said that was an encouraging achievement even though the crime index in the state increased by 15.81 per cent last year.
“This means that every 10 cases reported, we managed to solve 7.72 cases. This is the highest percentage in Malaysia last year,” he told reporters after the monthly gathering of the Sabah police contingent here today.
According to Ramli, drug-related arrests also increased by 43.72 per cent or 1,282 cases last year compared to 892 in 2016.
He said 93 individuals were also arrested under the Dangerous Drugs Act (Special Preventive Measures) 1985 last year, an increase of 287.5 per cent from only 24 arrests in 2016.
Ramli said 200 arrests under the Section 39B Dangerous Drug Act 1952 were also made last year compared to 62 in the previous year.
He said police had also seized 71.45 kilogrammes of drugs in Sabah during the same period compared to 39.3 kilogrammes in 2016.
On commercial crime, Ramli said a total of 1,597 cases were recorded last year compared to 1,050 cases in 2016, an increase of 547 cases or 52.1 per cent.
“From the number, RM91.3 million in losses were recorded compared to RM79.7 million in 2016,” he added.
Meanwhile, Ramli said no cross-border crime cases involving kidnapping for ransom were recorded in the state last year despite receiving 182 information on kidnap attempt cases. — Bernama
