PETALING JAYA, Jan 22 — A 55-year-old man who co-founded a home for underprivileged and orphaned children in Ampang Jaya has been remanded seven days on suspicion of sexually assaulting six girls under his care.

Selangor Criminal Investigations Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Fadzil Ahmat confirmed the man is being investigated for allegedly taking pictures of the girls while they were bathing and changing clothes, molest and raping at least one girl, theSun Daily reported today.

“Selangor police have identified two victims so far — one who was raped and the other who was molested and subjected to voyeurism while she was bathing. We are gathering evidence on the cases and are checking if there are more children were victimised by the suspect,” he was quoted as saying.

The senior policeman added that the remand order expires tomorrow.

The man was arrested in Klang on January 4, after going on the run following a molest complaint filed against him by a victim in Jinjang, Kuala Lumpur.

According to the news report, a 12-year-old girl staying at the home told her mother she had been raped by the man, and which subsequently lifted the lid on numerous other sexual assaults purportedly perpetrated by the male caretaker a year after the home opened.

The girls allegedly sexually violated by the male caretaker were said to be between 10 and 12 years old.
