KUANTAN, Jan 15 – The large waves that struck the East Coast following the change in monsoon winds brought good income for residents in Pantai Kempadang Beach, here, when hundreds of thousands of mussels were found washed ashore since yesterday morning.

News on the presence of the mussels was viralled on the social websites, such as Facebook, and the WhatsApp applications, resulting in nearby residents to flock to the beach tp look for the mussels.

One of them, Mohd Shahiran Sobri, 25, went to the beach with his nephew at 8 am yesterday.

“When I arrived, I found a lot of mussels scattered on the beach. There were not many people on the beach at that time I managed to collect over 100 kg of mussels in less than five hours.

“I sold them and made RM1,300,” he said when met by Bernama at the beach here today.

However, he said, today’s collection was not as good as he only managed to collect 40 kg because there were too many people looking for the mussel.

Another local resident, Norwati Salleh, 55, said she went to the beach with her husband after seeing many people there. — Bernama
