MIRI, Jan 8 — Police uncovered a cock-fighting pit on the first day of 2018 with 37 suspects arrested during a raid conducted by Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Sarawak CID Chief Datuk Dev Kumar said  the pit was found at Batu Niah here in a 2 pm raid led by ASP Lim Jaw Shyong.

“Thirty-seven gamblers were arrested for cock-fighting in a makeshift tent. Live and dead cockerels, gambling paraphernalia related to cock fighting were seized too, the biggest raid so far,” he said in a statement today.

He said a total of 75 individuals including the 37 aged between 17 and 62 were arrested for gambling-related offences in Sarawak in 27 raids conducted from Jan 1 to Jan 7, statewide.

“All those arrested are being investigated for offences under the Common Gaming House Act 1953 and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Ordinance 1962,” he added. — Bernama
