KOTA BARU, Nov 19 — The International Trade and Industry Ministry is organising training programmes and providing financial assistance to encourage more youths to venture into business, said its minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.

He said among the programmes was the Tunas Usahawan Belia Bumiputera (TUBE) which was conducted by SME Corp Malaysia.

“In the 2018 Budget, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced an allocation of RM40 million to double the number of TUBE programmes for youths,” he told reporters after officiating Miti Day 2017 here today.

Mustapa said this year, a total of 1,000 youths nationwide were coached under TUBE programmes and 2,000 people were targeted to attend the programmes next year.

Miti through its agencies was also exposing various opportunities to Bumiputera entrepreneurs to gear small and medium enterprises (SMEs) towards competitive advantage, he added.

“Together with Miti officials I will go down to the ground to visit the entrepreneurs, identify their challenges and help them in improving their business performance,” he said.

In conjunction with Miti Day 2017, a total of 3,000 employment opportunities were offered by 27 local and foreign companies to secondary school leavers and graduates particularly in Kelantan. — Bernama
