BUKIT MERTAJAM, Nov 17 — The Penang branch of the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) seized 156 tonnes of fake masonry cement, valued at RM78,000, in a raid at a warehouse in Jalan Bukit Minyak here yesterday.

Its Central Seberang Perai branch deputy chief, Mohd Azizan Mohd Rashid said a KPDNKK team raided the premises at 1 pm following a complaint lodged by the trademark owner of the cement brand.

“The French-based masonry cement company had lodged a complaint on the manufacturing activity of the fake product using its name, causing them to incur hundreds of thousands in losses,” he said here today.

Mohd Azizan said there were no workers at the warehouse during the raid but the processed cement as well as the equipment for processing and packaging were available.

“The market price for original masonry cement is RM24 per pack, while the fake ones are sold at RM20 each,” he said, adding that the warehouse might have been operating since early this year.

Mohd Azizan also urged construction companies or members of the public who had bought the fake cement to come forward to assist investigation and not to use the substandard material due to poor its quality. — Bernama
