KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31 — Pictures of Parti Warisan Sabah leaders in a business class flight section triggered controversy amid the party’s bid to raise donations for its president, Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal.

The image of Warisan youth leader Datuk Azis Jamman and vice-president Datuk Peter Anthony was originally posted on the former’s Facebook page, before it was shared online.

According to The Star newspaper, the photograph was redistributed with the caption: “Minta derma jamin boss. Tapi naik first class terbang KL (Seeking donations to bail out the boss. Yet flying first class to KL)”.

One Facebook user, Shaiful Tani, reportedly wrote on Azis’ Facebook page to say the latter’s action would only hurt the party’s image.

The person said Azis and Anthony should have flown economy class instead and mingle with other “ordinary” aircraft passengers.

“This is a little reprimand from me,” the user was quoted saying.

Warisan collected about RM112,000 in public donations to bail out Shafie, the former rural and regional development minister who was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) earlier this month.

The former Umno leader was released last Friday after eight days in remand.

Shafie was held in connection with the MACC investigation into alleged corruption involving rural projects in Sabah worth RM1.5 billion between 2009 and 2015.

He was among 13 people, including Aziz and Anthony, who were arrested and released on bail pending further investigations.
