KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31 —The Pakatan Harapan (PH) Opposition pact introduced a multi-point manifesto against corruption today that is aimed at the next general election.
The manifesto was read out by PH chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in the Parliament building.
Among the pledges are giving the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) independent prosecutorial powers, detaining “MO1” within 100 days of winning power, and convening royal inquiries into Felda and 1Malaysia Development Bhd.
Others include enforcing open tenders for all government acquisitions and contracts, reforming political funding and introducing laws for greater transparency in the government.
Dr Mahathir said the MACC should be removed from under the government in order to ensure its neutrality.
“The MACC should be an independent body and should be responsible to answer to the Parliament and not the PM. The responsibility should be given to the Parliament,” he told reporters during a press conference at Parliament today.
On political funding, PH suggested that donations be made to parties rather than individuals and capped to RM200,000 per donor a year, and for parties to be subject to an annual audit.
The 14th general election must be held no later than August 2018.
