KAJANG, Oct 14 — An inspector attached to the Bukit Aman headquarters was caught red-handed after he broke into his neighbour’s house at Taman Bangi Avenue on Thursday.
The 31-year-old inspector, who worked in the Anti-Money Laundering Act (AMLA) Division, found himself in handcuffs after a team of policemen found him creeping down the staircase with a bag of stolen items and a knife.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said the Bangi police station received an alert at 5pm when neighbours spotted a man picking the rear door lock.
He said on arriving at the scene, checks revealed the lock of the backdoor had been picked and the door was ajar.
Dzaffir said police entered the and saw the suspect coming down the stairs.
“A struggle ensued but police overpowered and arrested the suspect.,” he said.
“The suspect had a bag and a knife.”
He said police alerted the home owner, a 45-year-old financial consultant, who rushed home.
Dzaffir said when the consultant reached the house, he realised that the suspect in custody was his neighbour.
“The house owner checked the house and found all the bedrooms and the living room had been ransacked. He confirmed the items in the suspect’s bag were his.
Among the items stolen were a computer monitor, a handbag, a virtual reality simulator and coin deposit boxes.
The suspect was taken to Kajang district police headquarters.
The case has been classified as trespassing. The suspect is remanded until Monday.
