PETALING JAYA, July 7 — The transfers and promotions of 74 ranking officers were done to avoid interruptions to the coming SEA Games and general election, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar 

“This is being done now so that we don’t have any interruptions during the busy period when the SEA Games is held or if the general election is called. 

“So it’s better to do it now,” he told reporters yesterday.

The promotions and transfers would take effect on Aug 7. The SEA Games will begin on Aug 14.

Khalid said the promotion and transfers also came at the right time as there were also many senior policemen who were retiring.

Heading the list is Federal Management Department director Commissioner Datuk Seri Zulkifli Abdullah, who will take over the Internal Security and Public Order director’s post after its incumbent, Commissioner Muhammad Sabtu Osman, retired last month.

Zulkifli’s post will be taken over by current Federal Integrity and Standard Compliance Department director Commissioner Datuk Abdul Ghafar Rajab.

Criminal Investigations Department director Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh will be transferred to the Narcotics Crime and Investigations Department to replace Datuk Seri Mohd Mokthar Mohd Shariff, who will retire on Aug 17. 

Johor police chief Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd will replace Mohmad as CID director, while Royal Malaysia Police Secretary Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd will take over Wan Ahmad’s post.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mazlan Mansor will be transferred to Selangor police headquarters as state police chief.

He will replace Selangor police chief Datuk Seri Abdul Samah Mat, who will be retiring today.

Mazlan’s post will be filled by Internal Security and Public Order deputy director Deputy Commissioner Datuk Amer Awal.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Secretariat Deputy Superintendent A. Skandaguru will be promoted to Superintendent and will oversee corporate communications at the secretariat.

Several district police chiefs will also be promoted and reassigned.

Kajang police chief Assistant Commissioner Othman Nanyan replacing Senior Assistant Comm Datuk Raja Shahrom Raja Abdullah as Pahang CID chief, with the rank of Senior Assistant Commissioner.

South Klang police chief Alzafny Ahmad will be reassigned to Kuala Lumpur CID (Intelligence and Operations) as deputy chief, with current IGP Secretariat officer Assistant Commissioner Shamsul Amar Ramli replacing him.

Hulu Selangor police chief Superintendent R. Supramaniam was promoted to the rank of Assistant Comissioner of Police.

He will become the new Selangor CID (Investigations/Legislation) deputy chief.

His position will be taken over by Kuching CID chief DSP Lim Bak Phai, who will be promoted to Superintendent.
