KUALA LUMPUR, April 11 ― Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has asked all parties not to dispute efforts to improve the legal system to uphold Islam.

The Deputy Prime Minister said Malaysians should respect Islam as the federal religion as enshrined under the Constitution.

“We are very sad if there are those who question these efforts and that person or groups are not of the same faith as us. We do not intend to touch on other religions.

“You are with your religion and I am with my religion. Please respect my religion if you want me to respect yours,” he said when officiating the Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) Ulul Albab 2017 Convention here tonight.

Ahmad Zahid said as a country with diverse races and religions, the people were free to practise their religion but should always be tolerant and emphasise on the pure values such as found in every religious teachings.  

Touching on the Ulul Albab programme that was carried out since eight years ago, Ahmad Zahid said it a new model to build the TN50 generation which would comprise those able to memorise the Quran from among those from the corporate world and technocrats.

It was also in line with the TN50 target to produce 125,000 'huffaz' by 2050, he said.

Hence, he said Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) would set up another five MRSM Ulul Albab in Sabah, Perak, Kelantan, Pahang and Kedah compared to four at present.

Also present at the function were Rural and Regional Development Minister  Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, MARA temporary chairman Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob and MARA director-general Datuk Ibrahim Ahmad. ― Bernama
