GEORGE TOWN, March 23 ― The 19-year-old who allegedly drove the wrong way on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) and caused a fatal accident last week will be charged with driving under the influence of an intoxicant tomorrow.
This will be the second charge for Ng Pei Ven from the incident, following a charge last week for consuming illegal drugs under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
“It was decided that the accused be charged under Section 44(1)(a) of the Road Transport Act 1987 so she will be brought to court tomorrow,” a police spokesperson confirmed today.
She would be liable for three to ten years’ imprisonment and a fine of between RM3,000 and RM20,000 if convicted.
On March 14, Ng allegedly drove against traffic on the fast lane of the North-South Expressway and crashed into nine vehicles, killing a 26-year-old driver.
Videos of the teen's blue car speeding on the wrong side of the highway and the aftermath of the accident became viral after they were uploaded on social media.
The Central Seberang Perai police has completed investigations into the case and submitted a full report to the Attorney-General's office on March 22.
Ng is currently out on bail from the earlier drug charge.
