KUALA LUMPUR, March 6 — The police have dismissed a rumour claiming that abducted Pastor Raymond Koh had been murdered and his body has been discovered.
In a report by local daily The Star’s portal, Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Mohd Zani Che Din dismissed the rumour which was spread via text messaging app Whatsapp, and confirmed he had not received such news.
The portal also quoted the lawyer for Koh’s family similarly confirming that the Whatsapp message is untrue.
The first time rumours had been spread about Koh was in the early days following his February 13 abduction, with the message then falsely claiming that he had been found at a police station.
Malaysians held candlelight vigils last night to pray for Koh’s safe return, who is now missing for three weeks.
At the candlelight vigil yesterday in Shah Alam, Koh’s wife Susanna Liew Sow Yoke made a tearful plea to the attendees to pray for his safety and asked the abductors to return him, calling Koh a “good man” who helps the poor and needy.
Koh’s wife had previously said her husband, who founded a group called Harapan Komuniti that was started over 10 years ago and works with marginalised communities, had no known enemies.
The family is offering a reward of RM100,000 to anyone with information of his whereabouts.
The Selangor police has set up a special task force to investigate Koh’s abduction.
