KOTA KINABALU, Feb 27 — Police are carrying out a thorough investigation on whether there was negligence on the part of three policemen in the escape of a rape and robbery suspect in Beluran, Sandakan on Saturday.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Ramli Din said the officer and two personnel who are based at Beluran District Police Headquarters could face disciplinary action.

“Investigations to ascertain how it happened is still ongoing and we are tracking down the suspect,” he told reporters after a working visit by Brunei Police Commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Jammy Muhd Shah Al Islam here.

In the incident around 7.30pm on Saturday, Nasrudi@Sudi Ambo, 29, escaped from police custody into a nearby oil palm estate despite being handcuffed.

The suspect, an Indonesian is believed to have raped a 17-year-old girl and robbed her and her fiance on February 18.

Ramli urged the public not to speculate on the case which is being investigated under Section 223/224 of the Penal Code. — Bernama
