JOHOR BARU, Feb 27 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is still in the process of searching offices of several developers to obtain documents related to investigations on corruption and embezzlement of Johor state land.

According to MACC sources, as of today, more than 15 witnesses had their statements recorded in the probe related to corruption and many more are expected to be called up to assist investigations.

There have been no new arrests made in relation to the investigation of the case said the source.

The source added that the MACC was also in the process of examining all the documents that were seized in a series of operations launched since Feb 24.

“We are in the process of obtaining information and evidence that could assist the investigation,” said the source.

Meanwhile, MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Azam Baki when contacted declined to comment further on the investigation and requested all parties to give the commission time to complete investigations.

On Friday, six people, aged between 25 and 50 years, were detained by the MACC at several locations in Johor Bahru, involving the son and a special officer of a Johor state official, two developers, a lawyer and a civilian.

The MACC said all the suspects were believed to have played a part in the reduction of premium for land approved for housing and industrial projects as well as conversion of the status of various premises in Johor.

In addition to the arrests, seized in the operations were 21 luxury cars, five high-powered motorcycles, about RM500,000 cash, including foreign currencies as well as documents which could be of help in the probe.

The source said 45 bank accounts belonging to the suspects, involving an amount of about RM15.5 million had also been frozen. — Bernama
