JOHOR BARU, Feb 26 — The police have secured a remand on three men to facilitate investigations into the spread of offensive remarks, slander and incitation posted on the Facebook (FB).
The remand order on the trio — blogger, politician with an honorific 'Datuk' title and a self-employed — was obtained today, from assistant registrar Faridatul Farah Shukria of the Special Remand Court.
The blogger and politician were remanded for three days while the other man was held for two days.
The suspects aged between 61 and 65, had posted the remarks over the recent teenage cycling tragedy here, as well as incited the people to join in a cycling gathering at 8am yesterday.
They had also sought an audience with the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar on the issue, via FB.
The suspects are investigated under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, Sedition Act 1948 and the Penal Code.
Earlier, Johor police chief Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd in a statement said following a police report yesterday on the trio's FB postings, the 'Datuk', who was also a member of the Pagoh UMNO division, and the blogger were nabbed respectively, at 11pm yesterday and 2am today, in Taman Sri Gombak, Batu Caves, Selangor and Villa Taman Tasik, Bandar Sri Permaisuri, Kuala Lumpur.
