KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 18 ― Datuk Seri Najib Razak today expressed his grief at the tragedy that killed eight teenagers in an accident while cycling in Johor Baru this morning.

The Prime Minister also conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims.

“Read the news on the 8 teenagers and children who died from being hit by a vehicle in Johor this morning. It is very sad. Condolences to the families of the victims,” he said in his Twitter account @NajibRazak, today.

The 3am incident occurred when the eight teenagers together with a group of teenagers were cycling towards the Dataran Bandaraya Johor Baru and were believed to have obstructed Jalan Lingkaran Dalam, adjacent to the Mahmoodiah cemetary here.

Johor Baru Selatan District Police chief ACP Sulaiman Salleh said the action of the teenagers caused a vehicle driven by a 22-year-old woman from Taman Pelangi to fail avoiding the cyclists who were mowed down in the accident.

In the incident, five other teenagers sustained broken legs, two with internal brain bleeding and another one sustained head injuries. ― Bernama
